Suitability of electrical equipment for different environmental conditions
- IP stands for "International Protection" or "Ingress Protection" (Protection against penetration)
- The IP-Code consists of two digits: The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts (e.g. electrical conductors, moving parts) and the ingress of solid foreign objects. The second digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against harmful ingress of water.
Example: IP 57
5: Dust-proof (full protection)
7: Protection against immersion under specific pressure and time conditions
